Dr. David K Calderwood, MD graduated from the University of Washington (Seattle). He completed an internship and residency in Family Medicine at the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa. He received board certifications through the American Board of Family Medicine and the American College of Emergency Medicine. He practiced Emergency Medicine in hospitals in north Alabama for 20 years.
In 2004 he left ER work and began the practice of Family Medicine for 17 years with emphasis on preventative medicine including diet and lifestyle changes to reduce and reverse chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease. While in the private practice he had multiple students and residents from the University of Alabama in Birmingham do a Family Medicine rotation with him. He was recognized by the American Academy of Family Physicians as an “Active Teacher” 2009-2012.
He is currently the medical director of Sparrow Health & Performance, a functional medicine clinic in Birmingham, AL. He serves on the Medical Advisory Team at HealingALS.org
