CONVENTIONAL = TRADITIONAL = ALLOPATHIC
- They are good people who want to help you.
- They just don’t know it is possible for you to heal.
- They WANT to prescribe you drugs because that is the only thing they know
- The average medical doctor had over 1,000 hours of pharmaceutical training and 4 hours of nutritional training
- Toxicology is not taught in most medical schools, nor methods for detoxification
- They WANT you in clinical trials because that is the only thing they know
- Most conventional peer reviewed journals are funded by pharmaceutical companies
- Please DON’T get depressed with the prognosis—they don’t know
- Don’t believe anyone who says you cannot heal
Use conventional doctors for what they are good at
- Conventional testing
- Diagnosis (correct most of the time) A diagnosis is important because it gets you insurance coverage, disability, medical devices, fundraiser
- Lab Work
- Make sure you ALWAYS get a copy of your labs
- Prescription and referrals for
- Insurance
- Disability coverage
- Bloodwork
- Physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy
- Possible paid caregiving depending on your insurance/city
- Wheelchair orders
- Cough Assist prescriptions
- Breathing equipment authorization
- Feeding tube plan
- Referrals to see/travel to other doctors
- “Managing” a disease, not curing it or solving it
- Ordering prescription medication to mask symptoms
Do not use conventional doctors for what they are NOT good at
- Prognosis DO NOT BELIEVE their view of your future
- Finding causes for your disease
- Offering treatments other than drugs
- Helping you heal
- Finding imbalances in bloodwork and guiding you to make lifestyle changes that can help you heal
- They are not trained in diet, supplements (4 hours training in all medical school)
- They think a drug will solve a problem
- They are often not good with empathy nor diplomacy
Clinical trials
- 99 of 100 clinical trials in the past 20 years have FAILED
- This means you are putting something in your body that has a 99% chance of FAILING and MAY HURT YOU
- Before agreeing to a clinical trial, do you homework.
- Find out what safety testing they have done
- Possible side effects?
- Possible improvements?
- Can it be done at home or must it be in person?
- What restrictions do you have on supplements, diet, etc?
- How much energy and time is it going to take?
What to say or not say to a conventional doctor
You do not need to share everything!! You do not need to bare your soul.
Local or Online?
Check Practiononers from Healing ALS and Local both and decide.
Clinics
If you Clinic and expect them to Solve all of your problems, we have never heard of this happening. Ever.
What you do at home is just as important as anything at the clinic.
Finding a functional or integrative medicine doctor (from Step 4)
- Finding a functional or integrative medicine doctor.
- Beware: There are many doctors who call themselves “functional” or “integrative” doctors, whose only qualification is a weekend or week-long course in functional medicine. They do not have the depth of experience to handle a disease as complex as ALS
- On the other hand there are many naturopaths and functional or integrative doctors who have great experience and education and can help you with diet, supplements, detoxification and more, even if they have no specific ALS experience.
- DO read google reviews online AND get local referrals.
- Many naturopaths and functional doctors outside your area do telemedicine on Zoom.
- There are two websites to get practitioners in the US and Canada:
6) Finding a biological dentist
- Get recommendations from people you know for a biological dentist
- Read reviews on the dentist you are considering
- Once you have found a biological dentist:
- review their website, find out more about their office
- call the office to get the feel of the office and ask questions such as:
- normal new patient exam
- if they do cone beams * See note
- do they treat cavitations * See note
- find out prices
- ask if they do muscle testing (kinesiology or ART autonomic response testing)
- *Note: If they are great at getting mercury amalgams out safely but don’t do cone beam or cavitation, you may choose one dentist for fillings and the other cavitations.
- Finding a biological dentist
- Go to iaomt.org and watch the SMART safe-removal video. https://iaomt.org/resources/safe-removal-amalgam-fillings/
- Find a Practitioner
- Iaomt.org
- iabdm.org
FUNCTIONAL = INTEGRATIVE = HOLISTIC = ALTERNATIVE = COMPLIMENTARY
Examples: MD Medical Doctor, DO Doctor of Osteopathy ND Naturopathic Doctor, Naturopath, DC Chiropractor, Ayurvedic doctor, Chinese medicine doctor, Herbalist, Health Coach
WARNING:
- Some functional medical practitioners are not as good as others
- Some doctors call themselves functional even though they have only taken one course in medical school
- Get referrals, read reviews, do your homework, buyer beware
- Be extremely cautious of any clinic charging large amounts of money and guaranteeing results – these are almost always scams
YOU ARE IN CHARGE
- You know YOUR body, they don’t
- Most practitioners are not familiar with ALS and may recommend faster detox then the average ALS patient can handle
- You will know more than they do on certain subjects
- They will know more than you on other subjects
- Your research partner(s), friends, family who research a lot will know more on certain subjects
- Good rapport and discussions with your doctor for solutions is extremely valuable
- 1 + 1 can equal 10 or even 100
Lisa’s advice: “It’s important to find an alternative care doctor that you develop a good rapport with, one who respects the fact that you do a lot of research on your own and is willing to listen to your suggestions and assist you in getting whatever you ask for.
Right now, I only touch base with my conventional doctor when I want to get a certain specialized test done. I just tell her what I want and she organizes it, without any questions. I also use her when I need to get official paperwork completed for things like insurance purposes.”
BASIC PRINCIPLES
- You can work with them on Zoom or in person if possible
- Don’t expect miracles. It is YOUR work at home every day that will heal
- Don’t accept what they suggest without question (President/Defense Minister example)
- BEWARE OF PACKAGES, especially unless you have seen the doctor several times already
- Don’t believe anyone who says you won’t heal
- Get recommendations from others who have been there, talk to the office, read reviews, get as much info as possible ahead of time
- Continue to do your own RESEARCH
Use Integrative Practitioners for what they are good at
- Assist with Diet
- Helping with Supplements you may need – do your own research
- Interpreting testing to find deficiencies and toxins
- Recommending other therapies
- Help optimize blood work to “optimal” versus “normal” or “in range”
- Give suggestions on optimizing hormones
- Assist in suggesting, recommending or discussing detoxification protocols
- Answering your questions
- Bouncing ideas off of
- Finding and assessing out-of-the-box ideas
- Functional MDs can prescribe physical therapy, acupuncture, Newbie, and other therapies
- Their intuition and knowledge
What they’re NOT good at
- Feeling what you feel in your body
- YOUR intuition
- MOST are not good at finding ALL of the 40 to 50 things that it will take YOU to Heal (some are good at finding SOME of the things)
- Monitoring or deciding what you will do day to day at home
- Fixing your mental attitude and resolving your emotions.
Your Responsibilities
- You are the president of your own healing
- If you are not comfortable with something your practitioner suggests. ask questions and do research.
- If you are still not comfortable, do not do it
- If you get adverse symptoms from any protocol suggested, STOP.
- Restart the protocol at a lower dose or frequency and reassess
- As President, if your defense minister suggests something you are not comfortable with, you are responsible to find more information until you are comfortable or say no and have them make another suggestion.
