1. Self Assessment

  • Ask yourself how much of your health do you feel you personally are responsible for versus your support team and your doctors?
    • 0-20%
    • 20-40%
    • 40-60%
    • 60-80%
    • 80-100%

3. Empowerment versus Victim.

  • We can choose, in any circumstance, Empowerment versus Poor Me
    • Example: a tree hits your house. Your choice is get upset or find the good in the situation. You get a new roof!
  • You are responsible for your own health. Make your OWN decisions.
    • Your doctor says supplements are a waste of time and money and advises you against taking them. Your choice is to go along with what he says or do your own research on supplements and take the ones that make sense to you. You can also get the advice of a functional or integrative practitioner.
  • You have been diagnosed with ALS. How you react is up to you.
    • Your choice is: poor me, I’m going to die, I’m going to miss all these things. OR I’m going to look at all the advantages of my diagnosis. I’m going to live life to the fullest, with whatever time I have left, and enjoy every moment with my family and friends. I’m going to research because it will not only benefit my health and give me a longer and better quality of life, it will also help the health of my family and friends, with everything I have learned.

4. Write Ideal Life Statement

When things are repeated out loud, with emotion, they affect the subconscious mind. Positive words and feelings affect the subconscious mind in a positive way: they improve the immune system, the basic functions of the brain, heart, liver, kidneys, hormones, etc.

  • If you have not yet written your Ideal Life Statement, write it now (100-300 words)
  • For a sample Ideal Life Statement see page 2 of the HAROS application
  • Read your Ideal Life Statement a minimum of once a day, out loud.
  • If you cannot speak, play a recording of your Ideal Life Statement
  • You can also hum it or picture yourself speaking it

5. Conquer Fear of Death and Disability

What you fear appears. Fear puts your body in a state of stress, which puts you into sympathetic (fight or flight/disease mode) vs. parasympathetic (rest and digest/ healing mode).

  • Watch minimum 20 NDEs Near Death Experiences on YouTube.com
  • Read Many Lives, Many Masters by Brian Weiss, MD

6. Discussion on other Fears

Before you can focus on what you want, sometimes we have to get past our fears.
You may have none of these fears or more than one:

  • Fear of Death, Focus on LIFE
  • Fear of Disability, Focus on HEALTH
  • Fear of Abandonment, Focus APPRECIATION for all your friends, family and colleagues you have NOW in your life.
  • Fear of Poverty, Focus on ABUNDANCE

7. Meditate 10-20 min per day

Many studies show that meditation has a positive effect on healing. Telomeres lengthen with as little as 20 minutes of meditation per day. It puts the body into parasympathetic, the immune system improves and the body is put in healing mode.

  • Sit still and close your eyes
  • Everyone’s thoughts wander (monkey mind)
  • Calmly, bring your thoughts back to your breath, a spot on the wall, whatever calms you.
  • Everyone is bad at meditation at first
  • With practice, your meditation practice will improve and you will feel calm and rested afterwards

8. Write 3 New Gratitudes and 1 New Best Moment Daily

This will immediately get you into parasympathetic/ healing mode. Write them in a journal, electronic or paper.

  • The act of writing will etch this deeper into the subconscious mind
  • Reading these with emotion, anytime during the day will also immediately get you into parasympathetic mode
  • This is a great tool, when you are feeling negative.
  • It is impossible to think a negative thought while in a state of gratitude and appreciation.
  • Be grateful, even for negative things that happen in life.
  • It is a universal law that we learn and grow from negative things.

9. Write Positive Affirmations that you love

  • Short, positive things that

10. Volunteer for a short time each month

  • From 1 hour per month to 1 hour per week
  • It will help you focus on others needs, not just yours
  • There are people worse off
  • You do it for the right reasons: giving without expectation of getting anything back
  • Yet you will get a lot back.
