47 Steps to Healing ALS

Step 37: Clean Mind Purpose

Steps on the mind:

Step 9 Clean Mind: Thoughts

Step 17 Clean Mind: Emotions and Trauma

Step 28 Mental Detox

Today is Step 37: Clean Mind: Purpose

Healing is 60% mind, so it should have been 28 steps of 47.

The ONLY thing that every ALS reversal had in common was their thinking/mindset.

  1. Stayed positive, even in negative situations
  2. Researched, tried anything and everything, all made mistakes
  3. Prioritized their health AND lived life
  4. Followed their intuition, meditated/prayed
  5. Peace/love/gratitude/forgiveness
  6. Didn’t give up.
  7. They were in charge of their health, not their medical team

From the book Radical Remission by Kelly Turner, PhD who studied almost 1000 cancer patients who survived terminal diagnoses.

  1. Changing your diet
  2. Taking control of your health
  3. Following your intuition
  4. Using herbs and supplements
  5. Releasing suppressed emotions
  6. Increasing positive emotions
  7. Embracing social support
  8. Deepening your spiritual connection
  9. Having strong reasons for living

Evy McDonald – She went from thinking about dying to thinking about living. Forgave everyone, she let go of resentments, she stared loving herself, she started giving to others

Joyce Brown – Lost voice, now a speaker, 90th birthday

Todd Mitchell – Visualized, read the Bible and visualized Jesus healing him from the Bible passages. He was the leper, the blind man

Steven Bishop – chose to spend thinking about the positve things in his life.

Wendy Moore – Yellow stickers

What are you going to do once you heal?

  1. Write down what you want.
  2. Think about it all the time, obsess about it, visualize it
  3. Take action towards that

1. Write down what you want.

In 100 to 300 words state where you would like to be by xx date. What do you want to be doing for service or work, where would you like to be living, who you would like to be with, how you would like to be spending your time. What are you passionate about? Include what you want to accomplish once you heal, who do you want to influence?

2. Think about it all the time, obsess about it, visualize it.

READ what you have written down daily. Your subconscious mind will conspire to give it to you. God will give it to you.

To think about–think big:

I bargained with Life for a penny,
and Life would pay no more,
However I begged at evening
When I counted my scanty store;

Life is a just employer.
He gives you what you ask,
But once you have set the wages,
Why, you must bear the task.

I worked for a menial’s hire,
Only to learn, dismayed,
That any wage I had asked of Life,
Life would have willingly paid

― Jessie B. Rittenhouse

From the poem Invictus by William Ernest Henley

It matters not how strait the gate
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.

You may be 38 years old, as I happen to be. And one day, some great opportunity stands before you and calls you to stand up for some great principle, some great issue, some great cause. And you refuse to do it because you are afraid…. You refuse to do it because you want to live longer…. You’re afraid that you will lose your job, or you are afraid that you will be criticized or that you will lose your popularity, or you’re afraid that somebody will stab you, or shoot at you or bomb your house; so you refuse to take the stand.

Well, you may go on and live until you are 90, but you’re just as dead at 38 as you would be at 90. And the cessation of breathing in your life is but the belated announcement of an earlier death of the spirit.

–Martin Luther King, Jr.

The Dash Poem (By Linda Ellis)

I read of a man who stood to speak
At the funeral of a friend
He referred to the dates on the tombstone
From the beginning…to the end

He noted that first came the date of birth
And spoke the following date with tears,
But he said what mattered most of all
Was the dash between those years

For that dash represents all the time
That they spent alive on earth.
And now only those who loved them
Know what that little line is worth

For it matters not, how much we own,
The cars…the house…the cash.
What matters is how we live and love
And how we spend our dash.

So, think about this long and hard.
Are there things you’d like to change?
For you never know how much time is left
That can still be rearranged.

If we could just slow down enough
To consider what’s true and real
And always try to understand
The way other people feel.

And be less quick to anger
And show appreciation more
And love the people in our lives
Like we’ve never loved before.

If we treat each other with respect
And more often wear a smile,
Remembering this special dash
Might only last a little while

So, when your eulogy is being read
With your life’s actions to rehash…
Would you be proud of the things they say
About how you spent YOUR dash?

Check for Understanding and Completion of Step 37:

understand that every thought I think affects my health either positively or negatively.

have reviewed what the ALS reversals have done and thought about how to apply this to my own life.

have reviewed Kelly Turner’s 9 Steps and noted how I can apply these to my healing.

have clicked on the links of Evy, Joyce, Todd, Steven and Wendy and have decided which of the things that they did that I want to do in my own life.

have written down what I want in my life in 100-300 words.

have read the poems and thought about them.

After reading the poems: did you think big enough? Re-write your “Ideal Life” statement.

I read my “Ideal Life” statement daily for 30 days while visualizing it, with emotion. I have now established a habit.

understand that I can change my “Ideal Life” if I change my mind about what I want as I learn and grow.

understand that every thought I think affects my health either positively or negatively.

If you have checked all boxes, Congratulations! You have completed Step 36
